Guwahati: The Railway Police seized 42.41 kg of suspected cannabis and detained a passenger during an operation at New Bongaigaon railway station in Assam. The operation was conducted inside an AC cabin of the down-bound Tripura Sundari Express under the leadership of New Bongaigaon Railway Police officer Sanjib Choudhury.
During a search of the coach, police recovered a large quantity of suspected cannabis and detained a passenger identified as Imran Sheikh in connection with the seizure.
As per the preliminary investigation, the contraband was allegedly being transported from Agartala railway station in Tripura to Bengaluru.
Following the seizure, Railway Police took Sheikh into custody and initiated a detailed investigation into the case. Officials are attempting to determine the source of the suspected cannabis and establish whether other individuals were involved in the alleged trafficking operation.
