GUWAHATI: The fifth Livestock and Poultry Fair began from Friday at the Farm Ground at Khanapara, Guwahati, under the auspices of the state Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department and the Assam Livestock and Poultry Corporation. The Minister of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Krishnendu Paul, inaugurated the fair, and in his inaugural address, he said there is ample scope for investment in the livestock sector. Therefore, the department should expand the benefits of scientific animal husbandry to the farmers and livestock breeders in every part of the state and make the younger generation interested in animal husbandry.

The event was attended by prominent figures, including Assam Livestock and Poultry Corporation Chairman Manoj Saikia, Director Anil Chandra Deori, and Director Dairy Development Department Panchali Kakati. Chairman Saikia noted that the fair aims to make educated youth interested in scientific animal husbandry, and they have already seen positive results, with the number of livestock farmers in the state increasing rapidly.

The fair is being attended by several states in the Northeast, and more than 150 shops showcase various species of livestock, poultry, ornamental birds, and dairy products. It also includes an exhibition of state-of-the-art machinery and tools used in animal husbandry. The event will be held at the state and district levels, with awards for the best cattle breeders, goat breeders, pig breeders, and improved breeds of grass growers. Technical sessions, seminars, and free training for livestock farmers are also part of the fair.

The closing ceremony will be attended by Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya. The organizers hope for public cooperation and attendance throughout the fair.
