GUWAHATI: The Anusuchit Jati Yuba Chatra Parishad, Asom (AJYCPA) had demanded reservations for Lok Sabha seats in the Brahmaputra valley and Legislative Assembly seats in Upper Assam. They also added that the delimitation procedure, instead of repealing illegal foreigners, does not make any sense.
President of the organisation, Rubul Das, mentioned that this delimitation process has been carried out not for the protection of the indigenous people of the state but on a religious basis. He also mentioned that no guidelines have been followed in the process, that using the 2001 census data meant the inclusion of many suspected foreigners in the consideration, and that the process should be done only when the National Registry of Citizens is completed and errors are removed.
He also expressed displeasure with the removal of the Dergaon and Boko constituencies. And demanded that the number of constituencies be reserved for the Scheduled Tribes as per the Indian Constitution. Apart from that, he also demanded the reservation of one Lok Sabha constituency from the Brahmaputra Valley for the Scheduled Tribes. He also added that the organisation will put forward these demands to the Election Commission of India.
