GUWAHATI: An eviction of illegal banners at the newly inaugurated Dispur Flyover was carried today on 11th November 2021 by the Enforcement Branch, Guwahati Municipal Corporation, against the violation of recent public property defacement notification.

Earlier on November 9, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has taken up several steps to maintain cleanliness in the city.

GMC has given four WhatsApp numbers for people to post pictures of people spitting or littering the cityscapes. The WhatsApp numbers issued by GMC are 8811007000, 7399003001, 7399003002 and 7399003003 where denizens can post pictures of offenders.

This move comes after incidents of spitting paan on the walls of the newly-inaugurated Dispur flyover came to light. Addressing a press conference in the city on Tuesday, GMC commissioner Devasish Sharma said that from now onwards, no one will be allowed to paste advertisement posters in public places without the permission of the Corporation.

"We will give 15 days' time to people and agencies who have pasted advertisement posters in public places to remove all these posters. If they do not do so, we will take action against them under the GMC Act. If needed, we will lodge FIR against them," he said.
