Guwahati: The Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat has suspended Mintu Deka, a Grade III stenographer, following his arrest in connection with a fake appointment letter scam. Deka, who was posted at Janata Bhawan, was apprehended on Friday for allegedly forging the signatures of senior officials to issue fraudulent appointment letters.
According to police sources, Deka forged the signature of the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to a department’s joint secretary and used it to sign multiple fake appointment letters. Investigators revealed that he charged Rs 1 to 1.5 lakh from at least 13 unsuspecting candidates in exchange for these forged documents.
