GUWAHATI: Hatigaon police arrested Iyesha Khatun (57) and Hajiron Nesha (23), mother and sister of Azad Ali respectively, today. Mainu Sultana alias Najma Begum (26), wife of Azad Ali, and her seven-year-old daughter Lukma seemingly committed suicide yesterday. Najma Begum's brother Hafizur Rahman lodged an FIR at Hatigaon police station, leading to the registration of a case (544/22 u/s 302).
According to police sources, before 'committing' suicide, Najma alleged in the video that her husband had tortured her physically and mentally. Police sources said that only the post-mortem report would ascertain if the minor girl was killed before hanging or if she died of hanging.
According to sources, the bodies of the mother and her seven-year-old daughter were found hanging at Sijubari Chariali in the Hatigaon area. In the video, the woman prayed for people to pray for her as she did not get peace while alive. She said that her husband used to roam around at night by keeping them home and used to beat her following instigation from his family members.
