Guwahati: A major controversy broke out in the bustling Fancy Bazar locality on the occasion of ‘Eid-ul-Adha’ after police uncovered illegally slaughtered beef from a commercial building in Pakhi Market. The premises are reportedly owned by a man identified as Arshad Hussain.
Acting on a formal complaint, police teams from both Fancy Bazar Outpost and Panbazar stations carried out a joint raid. During the operation, one person was detained while allegedly cutting beef in a separate room on the third floor of the building.
According to reports, the beef was being prepared for distribution. Local witnesses claim that live cattle were moved to the upper floor in full view of the public before being slaughtered—raising serious concerns over public order and compliance with state regulations.
Authorities have confirmed that legal proceedings are underway and have assured the public that strict action will be taken against all those responsible.
