Guwahati: A district-level review-cum-consultation on the implementation of acts and schemes related to women was organized by SANKALP: Hub for Empowerment of Women, Kamrup Metropolitan District, as a part of the 16-day campaign on ending gender-based violence on Wednesday at the PWD Convention Hall, Dispur. It was conducted with an aim to take an overview of the implementation of the DV Act, PCMA Act, PoSH Act & She Box Portal, BNS, BNSS, BSA, and schemes related to Women & Bal Bibah Mukt Bharat and make convergence among various departments as well as for sharing of ideas for developing an action plan to deal with the issues relating to the implementing process.
Debo Kr. Kalita, IAS, i/c Chairperson, and Dr. Preety Lekha Deka, ACS, Member Secretary, Assam State Commission for Women; Casio Karan Pegu, ACS, Additional District Commissioner i/c Social Welfare; Dr. A.K. Sarma, Chief Medical Officer, Health Services; and Samip Deka, Deputy CEO, Zilla Parishad, Kamup Metropolitan District, graced the programme.
Dr. Preety Lekha Deka, ACS, shed light on the shifting dynamics of gender-based violence and legal safeguards, compensation schemes, and government initiatives and helpline numbers, such as Women Helpline-181 and Child Helpline 1098, to help the victims.
In the consultation, Lalita Deka, Gender Specialist, SHEW, Assam, took a session on the overview of the DV Act, PoSH Act, and She-Box portal, and she also focused on the shifting dynamics of gender-based violence, and the resource person from the District Legal Service Authority, Kamrup Metro, took a session on the overview of newly launched laws BNS, BNSS, and BSA and highlighted the section for the safeguard of women and children.
After the technical session, a brief presentation was presented by line departments/service providers on the women-related schemes & services and challenges faced, as well as an open discussion that was also held.
The key points discussed were sexual harassment of women at the workplace and the She-Box portal, child marriage, domestic violence, POCSO, women empowerment, etc. The ADC i/c Social Welfare, Gender Specialist, SHEW, Assam, and an advocate from DLSA were present as moderators.
