Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma laid the foundation stone for the Umpdem RCLP School in the Eastern West Khasi Hills District. On his visit, Sangma expressed his happiness and pride at being the first Chief Minister to visit the village.
Speaking at the occasion, CM Sangma stated that investing in education is the most effective and will yield the highest return in the future, emphasizing that state leaders must ensure that education is given new impetus in the interests of our youth.
He went on to say that no program is too small, and no village is too remote. He went on to say, "Every village is mine." As CM, it is my duty to not only take care of District Headquarters, but to ensure every village gets the development, service, and support it deserves.
CM Sangma thanked Mairang's MDC, Sh. Batskhem Ryntathiang, for contributing ₹40 lakhs through his MDC scheme for the school building construction.
Earlier this week, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated the office building of Hima Mawphlang in Lumrynkew Mawiong, East Khasi Hills, calling the occasion "historic."
He noted that despite Hima Mawphlang's nearly 1,000-year-old sacred traditions, it had never had an office before. Sangma emphasized the Hima's importance as a symbol of culture, tradition, and identity, and assured that funds would be provided to meet the office's infrastructure needs.
In addition, the Chief Minister announced the sanctioning of ₹25 crore through the Swadesh Darshan Scheme for developing a tourism center and infrastructure in Mawphlang’s Sacred Grove area, a popular tourist destination.
He also revealed plans to start classes at the newly sanctioned Mawphlang Science & Commercial College this year and granted ₹1 lakh to Mawphlang Secondary School. Sangma pledged further financial aid for musical instruments for Pynshailang Lyngdoh and encouraged Hima Mawphlang to preserve and share its heritage for future generations.
