ITANAGAR: The Papum Pare District Road Safety Committee Board (DRSCB) convened its second meeting on Tuesday, taking key decisions to enhance road safety across the district. The committee, chaired by deputy commissioner-cum-chairperson Vishakha Yadav, resolved to implement urgent short- and medium-term remedial measures along the Holongi–Itanagar–Banderdewa stretch of NH-415 and the Papu-Yupia package-I of NH-713A in coordination with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH).
Other major decisions included directing the district medical officer (DMO) to propose first aid skill training programmes and address the shortage of ambulances and trained drivers in the district.
Papum Pare superintendent of police, district transport officer, DMO and DDSE will collaborate with the Banderdewa-based Avenue for Joy Foundation to conduct road safety awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, public spaces, and among commercial vehicle drivers. To further engage the public, the SP will also organise a road safety bike rally.
The meeting, held at the DC office, saw participation from key stakeholders and officials who discussed pressing road safety issues. Executive engineer of Naharlagun highway division, Hage Tajang, presented a detailed PowerPoint plan outlining proposed road safety measures. This was followed by a brainstorming session on the way forward.
