Assam: Banderdewa Police Crack Down on Interstate Drug Trafficking, Seize 129 Grams of Suspected Heroin

Banderdewa police arrested four drug traffickers on February 13, seizing 129 grams of suspected heroin in two operations, and are pursuing ongoing investigations to dismantle drug syndicates.

ITANAGAR: On February 13, Banderdewa police apprehended four individuals linked to interstate drug trafficking, seizing approximately 129 grams of suspected heroin in two distinct operations.

The first operation was initiated following credible intelligence regarding the transport of a significant quantity of narcotics. Police set up a trap and arrested Tahir Ali, a resident of Bihpuria in Assam’s Lakhimpur district, in Karsingsa. Authorities recovered 10 vials containing a narcotic substance, weighing 13.61 grams, from Ali’s possession.

In a follow-up operation in the afternoon, police raided Niya Colony in Banderdewa, where they arrested three other suspects: Faizul Islam of Bihpuria, and two others from Hojai district, Faruk Ahmed Laskar and Akhlima Begum. The suspects were searched thoroughly, and they had found two soap cases and 70 vials of suspected heroin, with a total weight of 115.62 grams.

Following these arrests, the Banderdewa police registered two separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo highlighted the importance of the recent operations against drug syndicates, citing the arrests made and the enormous quantities of narcotics seized. He affirmed the determination of the police in breaking the syndicates and making the community safe through ongoing investigations. The authorities are pursuing the leads forcefully to break the major syndicates that operate in drug distribution.
