ITANAGAR: The All Upper Siang District Students’ Union (AUSDSU) has urged the state government to address pressing gaps in the district’s education sector through a 12-point memorandum submitted to the education minister via the deputy commissioner.

The student body, represented by Kamin Ejing (social service) and Makyem Tagi (secretary law & justice), raised several long-standing concerns affecting educational institutions across the district.

Their demands include the development of critical infrastructure, expansion of academic streams, appointment of qualified teachers, and operationalisation of institutions that remain incomplete or non-functional. At the forefront of their appeal is the early completion and operationalisation of the government polytechnic college in Yingkiong and VKV Ramsing. They also called for the completion of the boundary wall at government model college (GMC), Geku, along with the establishment of a sociology department and construction of a library building at the same institution.

The AUSDSU further demanded the re-operationalisation of the science stream at government higher secondary school Tuting, and the introduction of the same at GHSS, Mariyang. They highlighted the poor condition of infrastructure at Mariyang, seeking renovation of the playground and auditorium. The lack of qualified educators also featured prominently in the memorandum, with specific requests for the immediate posting of subject teachers and principals at GHSS in Yingkiong, Jengging, and Tuting. The students body also pressed for long-pending affiliation of government secondary school (GSS), Katan.
