ITANAGAR: Former Minister Bida Taku said that a dharna will be organized demanding the release of all detainees detained under APUAPA during the 72-hour bandh call at IG Park on Saturday. Addressing the media person at the press club here on Friday, Taku expressed his disappointment over the re-arrest of social activist Sol Dodum and four others, who were initially scheduled to be released on June 7. The DC, Talo Potom, ordered their return to police custody, sparking outrage.
Taku said that he recently visited Dodum at Jollang Jail, where Dodum revealed that the re-arrest occurred after they refused to accept a condition imposed by the administration, which forbade them from raising any issues against the government. “The District Magistrate recorded the entire incident in a live video, which quickly spread across social media platforms,” Taku said.
Taku called upon the public to join the dharna, emphasizing that Sol Dodum and the four others have affirmed their commitment to refrain from participating in any future illegal bandhs. However, they remain unwavering in their determination to raise their voices against corruption in the state, regardless of which political party is in power. Taku said the dharna intends to pursue all available democratic means to fight for their cause. Sol Dodum and the others have made it clear that they will not sign any documents containing conditional terms for their release. Highlighting the unconstitutional nature of the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities Preventive Act (APUAPA), Taku urged the state government to release all detainees without imposing any conditions.
