79th Independence Day Celebrated with Patriotic Fervour Across Assam

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with gaiety at Kachari Maidan in Biswanath district on Friday under the initiative of the Biswanath district administration.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with gaiety at Kachari Maidan in Biswanath district on Friday under the initiative of the Biswanath district administration. Minister for Education and Tribal Affairs, Government of Assam, Dr. Ranoj Pegu, inspected the guard of honour presented by the marching contingents of Assam Police, paramilitary forces, and students while unfurling the National Flag as the Chief Guest at the central function in Biswanath district. In his address, the Cabinet Minister mentioned that the state government is taking all possible steps to make Biswanath a prosperous district. After the flag hoisting, a number of cultural programmes were presented at the Kachari Maidan. Prominent among those present were MLA Pramod Borthakur, former minister Prabin Hazarika, Biswanath Municipality Chairman Amar Jyoti Borthakur, Biswanath Zila Parishad Chairman Sunita Tanty, District Commissioner Simanta Das, Biswanath Zila Parishad CEO Liza Talukdar, and others.

KALAIGAON: Along with the rest of the country, the Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office observed the 79th Independence Day with a day-long programme. The main function was held at the Gandhi Bakori playground in Kalaigaon. Dr. Priyanka Bania, Circle Officer of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle, hoisted the Tricolour on Thursday in the presence of OC Jiban Marak. Diganta Barua, EM of BTC, along with other dignitaries and families of freedom fighters, also took part in the function. Students from Kalaigaon Girls’ High School, Bholabari High School, Kalaigaon Higher Secondary School, and Kalaigaon Junior College added colour and energy to the occasion through patriotic songs, spirited dance performances, and other cultural displays, which received enthusiastic applause from the audience. A volleyball competition was also organised in the evening.

DONGKAMUKAM: Along with the rest of the nation, the 79th Independence Day was celebrated in West Karbi Anglong district in a peaceful and befitting manner without any untoward incidents.

All government offices, institutions, private schools, co-operative societies, and political party offices unfurled the National Flag between 7:30 am and 8:00 am. At the district headquarters in Hamren, Deputy Commissioner Sarangapani Sharma unfurled the flag at Rongbong Ronghang playground, followed by a march-past by Assam Police and school contingents, and traditional dances by ethnic tribes. Both ruling and opposition parties also hoisted the Tricolour at their respective offices.

BILASIPARA: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with grandeur at Bilasipara Public Playground under the aegis of the Co-District Administration, in the presence of nearly 4,800 people. The Co-District Commissioner of Bilasipara, Dr. Preeti Lekha Deka, hoisted the National Flag and in her address extended Independence Day greetings. She paid rich tributes to the martyrs and freedom fighters who laid down their lives for India’s freedom and integrity. She also reviewed the implementation of developmental schemes of both the Central and State Governments in Bilasipara and sought the cooperation of the people in completing pending works. Highlighting the significance of Independence Day, she urged everyone to work together to build a united and stronger India inspired by the ideals of the freedom fighters.

KOKRAJHAR: The Kokrajhar district administration celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervour at the Govt. HS & MP School playground. Chief Executive Member (CEM) of BTC, Pramod Boro, hoisted the National Flag after inspecting the guard of honour by police contingents, NCC, and students. Earlier, he paid glowing tribute to national martyrs at the Martyrs’ Tomb. He recalled Mahatma Gandhi, national martyrs, Assamese heroes, and Bodofa UN Brahma on the occasion. In his speech, Boro remembered leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, B. R. Ambedkar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their roles in shaping India. He highlighted Mahatma Gandhi’s mantra of non-violence, now observed globally on October 2 as the World Day of Non-Violence. He said the BTR government has adopted this principle to restore peace and harmony among communities in the past five years. For transformation, 35 flagship programmes have been launched to ensure all-round development and livelihood opportunities.

BONGAIGAON: SSB Frontier Headquarters, Bongaigaon celebrated the 79th Independence Day with a flag hoisting by DIG Amit Kumar Thakur, who paid tribute to martyrs and addressed the personnel. Sweets were distributed to troops and children. SSB also celebrated the day at Khuslupura L.P. School with students, teachers, and villagers.

DEMOW: The newly formed Demow Co-District celebrated the 79th Independence Day with grandeur and patriotic enthusiasm at the Demow Public Playground on Friday. The celebration was organized under the patronage of the Office of the Co-District Commissioner, in association with the people of Demow.

The day began with the lighting of an earthen lamp in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi by Meenakshi Permey, the newly appointed Co-District Commissioner of Demow Co-District. She later attended the official function as the chief guest and hoisted the National Flag at the Demow Public Playground, followed by an address to the gathering.

TINSUKIA: Margherita Co-District observed the 79th Independence Day with great patriotic fervour and enthusiasm, organized by the Co-District Administration. Pratibha Meshram, Co-District Commissioner of Margherita, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She hoisted the National Flag, followed by the rendition of the National Anthem, and took the salute alongside Co-District Police Superintendent, Margherita, Dinesh Pratap Singh Rathore. The March Past Parade was commanded by Subhan Baruah, ABI, 6th CDO. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest while extending warm greetings to the people of Margherita Co-District, paid tribute to the nation’s freedom fighters, and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and all-round development. The programme featured a vibrant cultural performance by students of various schools and colleges, showcasing the region’s rich heritage and diversity.

HOJAI: Hojai District Administration celebrated the 79th Independence Day in befitting manner. The celebration was staged at district headquarter Srimanta Sankardev Nagar in Hojai on Friday. District Commissioner Bidyut Bikash Bhagwati hoisted the National Tricolour and took salute of the march pass by security forces,NCC cadets here in Hojai. Before that, DC paid floral tribute at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi and shahid bedi. While speaking on the occasion, DC Bhagwati remembered the contribution of freedom fighters. He also apprised everyone on the welfare schemes undertaken by the Government for the people. DC Bidyut Bikash Bhagawati was accompanied by Sourabh Gupta, Superintendent of Police along with others officials and guests. All line departments officials and hundreds of people from all walks of life came to witness the cultural programme.  On the otherhand, Hojai District Judiciary, Hojai Bar Association, Tarani Sangha,Hojai, Hojai Press Club, Rabindranath Thakur Vishwavidyalaya, Hojai Girls' College and all the school, private Colleges, government offices', social organisations and individuals celebrated this day with much enthusiasm by organizing various programmes and activities making the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' mission a grand success.

GOLAGHAT: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated in Golaghat district with a colourful programme organized by the district administration. As part of the programme, the chief guest, the district commissioner, hoisted the national flag at 9 AM and received a salute, paying respect to the national pride of the Indian flag. Following this, a parade was conducted by the paramilitary forces, police, home guards, and the national student brigade.

The district commissioner delivered a speech as the main guest, covering various aspects of Golaghat district's history. He mentioned the status of work and progress of various departments in the district during his speech. In today's program, priority was given to honoring the fighters for freedom, and a tribute was paid to the freedom fighters by acknowledging their contributions.

The programme was attended by nearly 10,000 people, in addition to honoring the talented students of Golaghat district, fruits and vegetables were distributed among the patients at the Golaghat Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital, clothes were distributed to newborn babies, fruits and vegetables were distributed among the inmates of the district jail, and fruits and other items were distributed among the residents of the old age home located in Old Amolapatti and Bengenaikhowa as part of various community service activities.

NAGAON: The 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Nagaon district. The tricolour was unfurled by Assam's Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Keshab Mahanta, at the Nagaon Sports Association's playground Nurul Amin stadium. The minister paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and other freedom fighters, and praised the contributions of Assam and the North-East region to India's independence movement. He also highlighted the sacrifices of Nagaon's martyrs and freedom fighters. In his speech, Mahanta emphasized the importance of building a prosperous and secure Assam, and stated that the state government is committed to working tirelessly for the welfare of the people. He also mentioned the various development initiatives taken by the state government, including the Tata project in Jagiroad and the rejuvenation of the Kolong River. The event featured a cultural program, including patriotic songs and dances performed by students from various schools. The minister also honored the families of freedom fighters and martyrs, as well as the wives of soldiers and police personnel who have made sacrifices for the country.

GOALPARA: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated centrally with much enthusiasm and patriotic spirit at Polytechnic school field, Goalpara town. Dr. Numal Momin, Deputy Speaker of Assam Assembly, attended as the chief guest and hoisted the national flag in front of thousands of crowds.

Dr. Momin also observed the march past and received the salute of the participant police, NCC, school teams. Pradip Timung, DC Goalpara and Nabaneet Mahanta, SSP were also present among others on the occasion.

MANGALDAI: District Commissioner of Darrang Parag Kumar Kakaty participating as the chief guest in the ceremonial celebration of the I -Day, hoisted the national flag at  Kachari Maidan. In his speech, District Commissioner Kakati paid tributes to renowned freedom fighters namely Gopinath Bordoloi, Tarun Ram Phukan, Chandra Nath Sharma, and other known and unknown martyrs and freedom fighters of the country. He also offered deep homage to distinguished freedom fighters of Darrang, including Pandit Dineshwar Sharma, Tankeshwar Sharma, Tapeshwar Sharma, Ratnabala Devi, Ratneshwar Sharma, Paniram Das, and the 140 Krishak Swahids of Pothorughat.

In his address, the chief guest Parag Kumar Kakaty highlighted the developmental works underway in Darrang under various departments and mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Darrang to lay the foundation stone for a Medical College in Mangaldai, as well as for the Kurua-Narengi bridge and Guwahati’s Ring Road. At the conclusion of his speech, the chief guest received salutes from the police, NCC, Scouts, and Guides during the march-past.

NAZIRA: Along with the rest of the country the 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Nazira. Nazira Co-District Administration organized the central program at the Nazira District Sports Association's playground, where Smt. Kanika, Commissioner of Nazira Co-District, hoisted the national flag as the chief guest.

Prior to the flag hoisting ceremony, the Commissioner paid homage to the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence at the Gandhi Maidan. After the flag hoisting, the Commissioner inspected the parade and took the salute from the police and paramilitary forces.
