Boko: Hundreds of people, including family members, friends, and colleagues from different parts of Assam, along with APCC President Bhupen Bora and other Congress MLAs, attended the Namaj E Janaja of late Advocate Mridul Islam at Kismat Kathmi village under Boko LAC on Thursday. Mridul Islam, a 45-year-old advocate, was the secretary of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee’s (APCC) legal cell who lost his life while he took part in a protest march taken out by APCC towards the Raj Bhawan in Guwahati on Wednesday.

APCC President Bhupen Bora alleged that people were crying yesterday (Wednesday) due to the excessive use of tear gas and lost one of the APCC leaders and advocates of the Gauhati High Court, Mridul Islam, while they took out a protest march towards Raj Bhawan in Guwahati.

APCC President Bhupen Bora alleged, “We took out a protest march towards the Raj Bhavan in Guwahati, but police fired three tear gas canisters at the protesters to disperse them. As a result, we lost one of our leaders, Mridul Islam, and injured many news reporters and protesters also.”
During the interaction with the media at the late Mridul Islam’s house in Kismat Kathmi village, Bora also emphasized that the BJP government wants to intimidate the Congress party by crushing the democratic movement. “However, we will not stop protesting against corruption and other matters.”  APCC President Bhupen Bora and Mridul Islam’s family demand the judicial inquiry of the incident and financial protections from the government. Bora warns that if not, then the Congress party will gherao the Janata Bhawan in Guwahati, and whatever consequences will happen, the only Assam CM will be responsible.

Congress MLAs Rekibuddin Ahmed, Nandita Das, Nurul Huda, Jakir Hussain Sikdar, A K Rasid Alom, AICC Secretary Manoj Chouhan, and MP Gaurav Gogoi and Rakibul Hussin met the family members at Kismat Kathmi village in Boko on Thursday.

Chaygaon MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed announced that the APCC will give financial assistance of twenty-five lakh to late Mridul Islam’s family and political establishment, and the APCC will take responsibility for the education of late Mridul Islam’s two daughters.

On Thursday evening, MP Gaurav Gogoi and Rokibul Hussain met the family members and expressed their condolences to the family of the late Mridul Isalm.

MP Gogoi alleged that during the AGP government’s tenure, secret killings were happening in Assam, and now the open killings are happening during the BJP-led government. Gogoi said that this kind of incident happened in Assam and UP, where two Congress leaders lost their lives, and thus UP CM Yogi Aditya Nath and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sharma tried to break the democracy.

MP Gogoi emphasized that the incident happened in front of the media and public, so instead of the investigation, the state government should take actions against those officials who were involved in the incident. “Congress party and people will give the counter-answer in the future,” said MP Gogoi.

Boko MLA Nandita Das said that the AICC president, Mallikarjun Kharge, spoke with the late Mridul Islam’s wife and expressed his condolences to the family.
