DHEKIAJULI: In a significant move aimed at addressing long-standing concerns of working journalists, the Udalguri district committee of the Assam Press Correspondents’ Union (APCU) submitted a detailed memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Pulak Patgiri on Wednesday. The memorandum highlighted three key demands: allocation of land for journalists in the district headquarters, reconstitution of the defunct District Accreditation Committee, and issuance of pending accreditation certificates.

Led by district President Nava Kumar Deka, the APCU delegation urged the Deputy Commissioner to expedite action on these pressing matters. In response, DC Patgiri assured the team that prompt steps would be taken and directed District Information & Public Relations Officer Bigray Basumatary to initiate necessary arrangements.

The memorandum pointed out that journalists working in Udalguri have long been deprived of basic support and institutional recognition. Despite several pending applications, the district-level accreditation process has remained inactive due to the absence of a functional committee, and no land has been allotted to the media community so far.

Among the APCU delegation were Senior Advisor Gunjit Das, Narayan Deka, Secretary Fatik Nandan Rabha, Publication Secretary Nibaran Rabha, Assistant Secretary Mrinmoy Saharia, Bipul Hazarika, and Sworangsar Baglari.

Earlier in the day, a special general meeting of the APCU district unit was held at the Udalguri Xahitya Xabha Bhavan under the chairmanship of Nava Kumar Deka. Several resolutions, including the call for land allotment and urgent reforms in the accreditation system, were adopted. The meeting was coordinated by Secretary Fatik Nandan Rabha, who also presented the action plan for upcoming organizational activities.

The APCU expressed optimism that the district administration would act swiftly in the interest of the journalist fraternity, ensuring their professional dignity and welfare.
