Dhekiajuli: In a significant development aimed at promoting linguistic inclusivity in education, Assam’s Cabinet Minister and Dhekiajuli MLA Ashok Singhal has assured the introduction of Assamese as a medium of instruction alongside Bengali at Dhekiajuli Vivekananda Vidyapeeth High School, which is at present a Bengali Medium School.

The announcement was made today during the school’s Saraswati Puja celebrations in the presence of key stakeholders including School Management Committee President Shekhar Chand, Principal Prashanta Ghosh, Assistant Principal Nandalal Das, and former headmaster of Dhekiajuli  Girls’ High School Biren Saikia. According to the school authorities, Assistant Principal Nandalal Das has been a driving force behind the initiative advocating for the inclusion of Assamese medium to cater to a broader student demographic. The proposal to introduce Assamese was formally adopted in a general meeting held on December 31, 2024, attended by nearly 100 parents and guardians. Today, a copy of the proposal was officially submitted to Minister Singhal for approval.

This move is expected to enhance educational accessibility for Assamese-speaking students in the Dhekiajuli area while fostering a bilingual learning environment. The school authorities, with the support of the local people, are optimistic about the implementation aiming to boost student enrolment and educational outreach.
