Assam: 11th annual conference of United Bodo People’s Organization enters 2nd day in Kamrup district

The 11th annual conference of the United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) held at Mainao Fwthar, Jajikhona, Rangia in Kamrup district entered 2nd day on Wednesday.

KOKRAJHAR: The 11th annual conference of the United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) held at Mainao Fwthar, Jajikhona, Rangia in Kamrup district entered 2nd day on Wednesday. The delegate meeting of the UBPO reiterated the speedy implementation of all clauses of the BTR accord in letter and spirit at the earliest.

As part of the programme, the president of UBPO Manuranjan Basumatary hoisted the organizational flag while vice president Badal Muchahary paid floral tribute to martyrs followed by souvenir releasing function which was chaired by the president of the UBPO Manuranjan Basumatary.

The souvenir, “Kachari Halamni Mwkhang” brought out by the reception committee and another book, “Dao Bilwgw”, written by Phanidhar Basumatary were released by former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) Taren Boro.

 In his speech, he said the Bodo language had reached digital format, used as administrative and link language in the state. He also said the Bodo has been used in the state assembly and  Parliament as well, translators are appointed. He also said new poets were coming up but the novelists are decreasing while children and drama literature are also going down.

 In his speech, Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Biswajit Daimary said, “The conference gave an opportunity to come together to a platform as guests of Bodo origin from Tripura, West Bengal, Meghalaya and Nepal participated and share their views. He said the Bodo origin from various parts were nowadays not far away between each other as communications have made them close. He also said 50 Bodo people from Bangladesh and good number of guests and representatives from West Bengal and Nepal are coming to the historic Bodo Sahitya Sabha session scheduled to be held from January 10 to 12 at Dimakuchi in Udalguri district. He also said there had been just little difference in linguistic pronunciation but the identity, character and appearance have similar affinities. The Bodos of Assam are known as Bodo or Kachari, Dimasa, Mech Kachari in West Bengal, Meche in Nepal, Borok in Tripura etc, he said adding that meeting and sharing between each other will bring them back to a great race. He called upon all to practice writing history so that the generations to come can follow it.

The function was also addressed by the guests from West Bengal- Dila Saibo, social activist and secretary of West Bengal Mech Somaj Sibiari Afat and Tripura- Bananali Debbarma, retired lecturer of District Institute of Education and Training. The function was attended by the CEM of BKWAC Mihiniswar Basumatary, Deputy Chief Romeo P. Narzary, EMs and local intellectuals.
