Assam: 14th Bodoland Indigenous Games conclude in Baksa district

The 14th Bodoland Indigenous Games 2025, held at Medaghat Playground in Baksa district, concluded.

KOKRAJHAR: The 14th Bodoland Indigenous Games 2025, held at Medaghat Playground in Baksa district, concluded on Sunday evening. The mega traditional games competition organized by the Bodoland Indigenous Games Association (BIGA), central committee, and Baksa District Committee kicked off on March 21 where over 450 participants from Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Tamulpur, Udalguri, Sonitpur, and Biswanath took part.

Sources from BIGA said that competitions in seven traditional games, Khomlainai, Gila, Batha, Daria Pantha, Khikhor, Bwrai-Buri, and Dongfang Bukhunai, were held besides demonstrations of other indigenous games.

In the concluding ceremony, the prize distribution ceremony was held which was chaired by Lawrence Islary, MLA and President of the BIGA, and local MLA and Chairman of Reception Committee for 14th Bodoland Indigenous Games Bhupen Boro gave the welcome address. BTC EM Rakesh Brahma released the 3rd edition of ‘Thaoniyari Gelemu ,’ the mouthpiece of the BIGA.

 In his speech, MLA and President of BIGA Lawrence Islary said that the association was formed to protect, preserve, and promote Bodo indigenous games formed by Late Chanakya Brahma. He said that the Bodos had lots of indigenous games played by forefathers since time immemorial but most of the games were on the verge of extinction. He also said that the BIGA had been working with the objectives of protecting all the indigenous games of the Bodos. He further said that the BIGA was looking forward to preserving all the identified precious traditional games of the Bodos. BTC EM Rakesh Brahma, in his speech, said that the noble works of the BIGA for preservation and promotion of Bodo indigenous games was praiseworthy. He thanked the BIGA for dedicatedly pursuing the protection and promotion of indigenous games of the Bodos. He also said that the Government of BTR will extend all possible help to the BIGA for protection of Bodo indigenous games.
