BARPETA: An Indian Air Force officer met with a road accident that took place on the Barpeta-Howly road in Assam, leaving him injured.
The injured officer has been identified as Dharmendra Kumar who was travelling from Shillong to Bagdogra in West Bengal along with his colleague.
The road mishap occurred when a Swift Dzire vehicle bearing registration number AS 15M 6698 approaching from the opposite direction collided with their vehicle at a high speed.
The officer was driving a Mahindra XUV 700 car bearing registration number DL 1C AF 7778 and he sustained injuries to his hand.
Following the incident, Howly police arrived at the accident spot and took custody of the driver of the Swift Dzire car for interrogation. The accident caused a severe traffic jam on the Barpeta-Howly road.
The cops have initiated a thorough investigation to uncover further details into this case.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, a tragic road accident occurred on National Highway 39 at Marangi's Purabangla under the jurisdiction of Numaligarh Police Station, resulting in the instantaneous death of one person and serious injury to another.
According to eyewitnesses, a Tata Intra goods carrier vehicle (AS05HC6737) was struck by an unidentified trailer, causing the vehicle to lose control and crash into a nearby shop owned by Dipa Chetri. The accident resulted in the immediate death of Kartik Bauri (27 years), a resident of West Bengal and the co-driver of the vehicle.
The driver, Ridip Gogoi, a resident of Lurukihat and a member of the Numaligarh Oil Refinery Drivers' Association, sustained severe injuries. The accident also caused significant damage to the shop.
