SIVASAGAR: The Assam State Conference of the All India Youth Federation (AIYF) commenced on Sunday at the CPI party office near Station Chariali in Sivasagar. The two-day conference was inaugurated with a flag hoisting by youth leader Krishna Gogoi, followed by a tribute to martyrs led by Madan Baruah.

The event began with an introductory session presided over by Professor and Social Activist Anup Baruah. Riku Borgohain, President of the conference organizing committee, and a youth leader, explained the objectives of the gathering.

In the afternoon, an open session was held under the chairmanship of youth leader Ajay Bora. The session featured AIYF’s All India General Secretary Tiru Mallai Raman as the chief guest. In his address, Raman criticized the widening gap between the rich and the poor in the country, stating that although India is a resource-rich nation, 90% of its population struggles to make ends meet while only 10% of capitalists and industrialists enjoy wealth and power. He strongly opposed the privatization of national assets and expressed hope that a true socialist revolution would one day establish an ideal socialist-communist nation in India. Renowned Assamese writer and senior Advocate Shantanu Borthakur, speaking as a distinguished guest, called on the youth to critically examine past mistakes. He urged attendees to reflect deeply on why leftist ideology and practice have recently lost public traction in India and what factors have led to distortions in democracy and constitutional values.

Another noted guest, writer and Advocate Kishore Kumar Kalita highlighted the various challenges currently faced by Assamese society. He touched on social, cultural, educational, economic, industrial and productivity-related issues, emphasizing the need for scientific thinking and self-critique in addressing these problems. Kalita stressed that conferences like this should draft concrete action plans to address the issues and prospects concerning India’s youth.

Senior journalists from Sivasagar, Monirul Islam Bora and Pranjal Rajguru, were present at the open session, which also saw brief speeches by several CPI and AIYF leaders including Assam State Secretary Kanak Gogoi, Moni Buragohain, Jadu Bora, Satyen Gogoi, and Netra Handique. The conference continues on Monday with further discussions and organizational sessions focused on mobilizing youth for progressive change.
