DIBRUGARH: The inter-state dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh has been an old one but both the governments have been trying to resolve the issue by taking a slew of measures. There are initiatives that are being taken up by the governments of both states, which are aimed at creating an atmosphere of brotherhood and bonhomie among the people from both the states.

One such excellent example is the coming up of a namghar and heritage centre at Namsang in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh. The project is a dream project of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Naharkatia MLA Taranga Gogoi, and Arunachal Pradesh Forest Minister Wanki Lowang.

In fact, a Rs 5 crore-budget for the construction of the historic project has been sanctioned by Sarma and the first instalment of Rs 2 crore has been released.

The 3 bigha land, on which the project is coming up, is being provided by the Arunachal Pradesh government and the approach road is also built by it.

MLA Taranga Gogoi and Dibrugarh District Commissioner Bikram Kairi and Arunachal Minister Lowang and Zila Parishad member Wanphoon Lowang are all jointly monitoring the progress of the project on ground.

There are around 80 Assamese families in the Deomali area of the district who are feeling elated due to the coming up of the project. They expressed gratitude to the Assam Chief Minister for sanctioning the project.

It might be mentioned that earlier there were 60 namghars in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh, but today owing to certain reasons, there are only 7 in the district.

“Since 1960, I have been living in Namsang for Sanathan Dharma. I originally hail from Jorhat, Assam. 80 Assamese families have been living in Deomali for many years and now a namghar and heritage centre will be coming up in Namsang. We are very happy with this initiative taken by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma,” said Chitra Sarma, Namgharia of Namsang.

Deomali Zila Parishad member (ZPM) Wangphoon Lowang said, “We are thankful to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for helping us build the namghar and heritage centre in Namsang. Assam and Arunachal have a relation of 400 years but we have come into the Vaishnav fold some 300 years ago. The king of Namsang had also come into Vaishnav fold and frequently went to Assam to take blessings from Satras. But some 20-30 years ago, our relationship was cut off due to a divide along religious lines. We believe that through this namghar, our relation will again become stronger like before.”
