The Urs celebration, which commemorates the death anniversary of Bibi Mariam Fatema, began with the traditional religious Chador offering ceremony during morning hours when devotees from various parts of Assam irrespective of caste, creed, race, language, and religion gathered at the sacred shrine to pay their respects and seek blessings.

Toufik Khan, General Secretary of Bibi Mariam Fatema Mazhar Development Committee, said that every year, Annual Urs is celebrated on the last Thursday of the February month, when people from all walks of life come here in large numbers.

Bibi Mariam Fatema belongs to the Syed Dynasty whose ancestors in the year 1882 came from North West Frontier Province, Balochistan, Pakistan which was then under British India to work at Assam Railway and Trading Company Limited Margherita and later they settled at Makrani Line in Ledo and Pathan Line in Bargolai under Margherita. In the year 1902, Bibi Mariam Fatema died at Namdang and was buried and the place became a sacred shrine, where it is believed if a person prays with full devotion then the person’s wishes come true, added Toufik Khan. Bibi Fatema Mariam’s descendants are still alive and live at Vineer Mill Bazaar, Margherita.
