Pathsala: The Women Cell, Bhattadev University had observed National Girl Child Day on January 24, 2025. Prof. Dhanapati Deka, Vice Chancellor of Bhattadev University graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. In his inaugural speech, he discussed the status of Indian women in past and at present, issues of women empowerment and cited several examples of women who managed to overcome challenges and set examples in the society.
The Secretary of the Women Cell, Bhattadev University, Dr. Nabanita Baruah highlighted the objectives of today's awareness programme towards the need of creating a healthy save environment for the girl child by the empowering mechanisms. Princhi Baruah, DSP, Nalbari District and Dr. Lipika Barman, DCPO, Baksa District were the resource persons of the programme. Princhi Baruah in her lecture highlighted several factors of gender differences, the need of economic independence of girls and their decision making, awareness on financial and political matters and the need of positive surroundings of people to achieve the set goals. Dr. Lipika Barman in her speech discusses the challenges faced by the girl child in India, govt schemes on girl child, legal provisions on juvenile justice in India, POSCO Act 2012, Child marriage and the preventive measures available for the same.
The meeting was presided by Dr. Dulumani Deka, Associate Professor and President, Women Cell, Bhattadev University. Dr. Deka in her presidential remarks highlighted the importance of female education and the consequences of early marriage for girls. Vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Navalakhi Hazarika, Associate Professor cum a member of the Women Cell. Several faculty members and students from different departments of the University participated in the event.
