Assam: BJP sweeps Panchayat election in Biswanath

BJP wins 12 Zilla Parishad seats across 3 constituencies in Biswanath district; Panchayat vote counting held peacefully and orderly.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: The counting of votes in the Panchayat elections in Biswanath district conducted in an orderly and peaceful manner. According to the results declared, BJP candidates won a total of 12 Zilla Parishads in three assembly constituencies in the district. According to the results announced after the counting of votes, Pabita Narzary Gayari won Sakomtha Zilla Parishad 1 (19976 votes), Ganesh Basowar won Sakomtha Zilla Parishad 2 (18,637 votes), Dipali Devi won Biswanath Zilla Parishad 1 (15,984 votes) and Pranodipto Rajkhowa (21,617 votes) won in Biswanath Zilla Parishad 2.

Likewise, BJP candidates won four Zilla Parishads in Behali Assembly constituency, namely Snigdhajyoti Goswami in Baghmara Zilla Parishad (27,005 votes), Jahnavi Das in Bargang Zilla Parishad (16,965 votes) and Chetan Gautam in Nij Behali Zila Parishad (12,944 votes). The BJP candidate Sunita Tanty had already won the Burai Zilla Parishad unopposed.

Similarly, Dipali Devi won in Helem-B Zilla Parishad (14,324 votes), Niran Hazarika in Helem-A Zilla Parishad (17,247 votes), Lakshya Mili in Lohitmukh Zilla Parishad (15,867 votes) and Nitul Hazarika (21106 votes) won in Kalabari Zila Parishad seats, respectively.

The BJP candidates won 59 seats out of a total of 73 Anchalik Panchayat member seats in the three assembly constituencies of the district. Three Congress, nine AGP and two independent candidates also won. 23 candidates were already elected unopposed for the 23 Anchalik Panchayat member posts in the district. There were 730 GP wards in the district. Of these, candidates in 237 wards were elected unopposed and the elections for ward members were held in 493 GP wards.
