Assam: Book on monuments of Gohpur released at Chaiduar College

Dr. Swapna Kakoti’s book “Archaeology of Northern Bank of Upper Brahmaputra Valley” was released by Majuli University VC at Chaiduar College.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: A well-documented book named “Archaeology of the Northern Bank of Upper Brahmaputra Valley” penned by Dr Swapna Kakoti, Associate Professor in the Department of History and also IQAC Coordinator of Chaiduar College (Autonomous), Gohpur in Biswanath district was released by Professor Nirode Boruah, Vice Chancellor of Majuli University of Culture, in a ceremonial programme held on Saturday in the college.

Releasing the book, Professor Boruah lauded the work as a landmark in historical research, stating that its rich scholarly content is poised to bring international recognition to the archaeological and historical heritage of the northern bank of the Upper Brahmaputra Valley.

Dr Swapna Kakati conducted her doctoral research on this topic under the guidance of Professor Boruah. The book, published with financial assistance from the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), New Delhi, explores various facets of local history with academic rigor, including studies on the Dhandi Doul, Basudev Doul of Kalabari, Maghnowa Doul of Narayanpur, the bell inscriptions of Barkalika Than in Hawajan, the Surya idol of Golchepa, the Bhringa inscription of Kalyani Temple, the Bota inscription, the Indra idol from Kalabari, the Tara Devi idol from Burha Madhav Temple, besides historical roadways such as Rajgarh Ali and Gohain Kamal Ali.

The programme was conducted by Dr Bipul Saikia, Associate Professor and former Head of the Department of Botany while the welcome address was delivered by Principal Dr Kishore Singh Rajput.

A number of dignitaries including former Governing Body president Khagen Goswami, present president Chandan Baruah, former Principal-in-Charge Diganta Gohain, retired professor Pradip Dutta and others attended the programme.
