DHUBRI: 66 Bn Border Security Force (BSF) manning along the Indo-Bangla border seized 202 Common Sand Boas ( also known as the two-headed snake) recently on a tip off at Ghewmari border in Dhubri district.
A forest official informed that species of snake protected under Indian wildlife laws, but myths and misconceptions often leads to smuggling of rare species worth crores in the black market.
Two transborder traffickers were apprehended identified as Arif Mal and Talib Mal, both brothers and residents of Marakpur village in Habra, North 24 Pargana, West Bengal, official further said. Snakes were later handed over Dhubri Forest Division for releasing them in their natural habitat.
