SILCHAR: In a decisive stride toward monsoon readiness, Cachar district demonstrated its unwavering commitment to disaster resilience by hosting a strategic flood preparedness review meeting in the new conference hall of DC office here on Thursday.
Organized jointly by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department and the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the meeting served as a vital platform for assessing the district’s flood preparedness and galvanizing interdepartmental coordination ahead of the rainy season.
Chaired by Dr. Dhrubajyoti Hazarika, Additional District Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Cachar, the high-level session focused on reinforcing the district’s capacity to respond swiftly and effectively to potential flood-related emergencies. With a comprehensive review of contingency plans, the deliberations placed particular emphasis on the efficient management of relief camps and operational directives for the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). The objective was clear: to ensure all response mechanisms are not only functional but optimally aligned for rapid deployment.
The proceedings commenced with a gesture of recognition and respect, as key figures instrumental in disaster management and capacity building were warmly felicitated. Among the dignitaries honoured were Prabir Kumar Dutta, Principal of the Survey and Settlement Training Centre; Kishor Dutta, Project Officer (Training & Capacity Building), ASDMA; and Manjit Mahanta, Project Officer (Disaster Management - Agriculture), ASDMA. Their participation underscored the multidimensional nature of disaster preparedness, encompassing training, agricultural resilience, and strategic planning.
Bringing together a wide spectrum of officials from various departments, the meeting fostered collaborative dialogue and encouraged a unified approach to disaster mitigation. With the monsoon clouds on the horizon, Cachar’s readiness strategy stands as a testament to its proactive governance and its resolute focus on protecting the lives and livelihoods of its citizens through robust, well-coordinated action, stated a press release.
