Assam: Central Govt Officials Visit Demow Hospital for Snakebite Program Review

DEMOW: The National Institute of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi officials Dr Manish Chaturvedi and Dr Monika Saini visited Demow Model Hospital-cum-CHC situated in Demow Konwar Dehingia and Demow BPHC situated in Demow Chariali on Thursday for third party evaluation of NPSC (National Programme for Prevention and Control of Snakebite Envenoming). The officials interacted with several recovered patients from surrounding areas who had survived bites from venomous snakes like the Banded Krait (Feti Saap), King Cobra (Shankhchur Saap), Pit Viper, and Russell’s Viper (Ronga Muria Saap).

The district scenario on snakebite case load, case management, and logistics were briefed. The challenges and future requirements were mentioned by Dr Surajit Giri, Dr Rupam Borkakoty, and Dr Prasanta Sharma who also added their valuable inputs. The health staff of Demow Model Hospital-cum-CHC took this opportunity to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the patients who, setting aside their work and daily chores, came to the hospital at their request.

The Delhi officials were deeply moved to witness the high level of awareness among the attending patients regarding snakebite management. Along with the officials, the healthcare workers, the local Sonapur NGO, VRT (Venom Response Team) members Duleswar Gowala and Kiran Na Biyak, the District Nodal Officer, and several recovered patients were present.
