NAGAON: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the state police mechanism, has started an investigation into allegations of some teachers in Nagaon holding fake B.Ed degrees from outside the state.

The allegations claim that these teachers have been employed by the government without proper verification of their credentials. Moreover, it has been reported that some teachers have obtained B.Ed degrees from outside the state without obtaining the necessary permission from the school inspector or without being deputed.  Since 2017, the government made it mandatory for secondary school teachers to hold a B.Ed degree. Similarly, in 2013, the government had made it compulsory for teachers of provincialized schools to obtain a B.Ed degree within five years.

However, some teachers have resorted to fraudulent means to obtain fake B.Ed certificates. The CID has taken up the matter and has started investigating the allegations. The team has visited the office of the Inspector of Schools, Nagaon and asked for the certificates of the teachers.
