KOKRAJHAR: As Sericulture is becoming an emerging sector of Bodoland and the Northeastern region, the Member Secretary of the Central Silk Board (CSB) P Sivakumar along with the Director of the Mulberry Extension and Seed Production Organization (MESSO) NK Bhatia visited the Eri Spun Mill of the Sericulture Department situated at Adabari, Kokrajhar on Wednesday last to oversee the eri productions and performance.
The officials were also accompanied by higher officials of MESSO, CSB, Guwahati and senior scientists and officers of the Regional Office, RSTRS, Guwahati. The officials inspected the Eri Spun Mill at Adabari, Kokrajhar and also interacted with the farmers. Besides, the Member Secretary of CSB and MESSO visited the farmers’ field and visited the eri-silkworm rearing along with the kesseru plantation.
The Council Head of the Department (CHD) Anjan Chakrborty thanked the Member Secretary of CSB, Director of MESSO, Guwahati and other officials of the CSB for visiting the Eri Spun Mill in Kokrajhar and their suggestions for improving Sericulture in BTC. It may be mentioned that the Sericulture Department of BTC has become the largest eri producer in the Northern region. The Bodo people of BTC have been deeply associated with the traditional rearing of eri-silk over the ages and their traditional practice of rearing of eri-silk and weaving are being upgraded with the support from the council government.
