TEZPUR: Darrang College, Tezpur, one of the most prestigious institutions of higher education in Assam, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the only college in Assam to receive the FIST (Fund for Improvement of S&T Infrastructure in Universities and Higher Educational Institutions) grant from the Government of India’s Department of Science and Technology.
This announcement was made during a special general meeting of the Darrang College Alumni Association, held at the college alumni hall. The meeting witnessed the participation of former students from various regions. Presided over by retired administrative officer and alumni association President Dhrubajyoti Das, the session began with introductory remarks by former joint secretary Pankaj Baruah and Acting Secretary Indrani Tamuli. Retired professor and former association president Dr Dharmendra Kumar Sarmah delivered the welcome address.
During the meeting, Dr Hemanta Jyoti Nath, Head of the Geography Department, was elected as the new General Secretary, and Senior Office Assistant and Achyut Sarmah was elected as the Assistant Secretary, filling two vacant positions in the association.
President Dhrubajyoti Das emphasized the need for a fresh approach and strategic planning to make the association more dynamic. He urged alumni to maintain strong connections with their alma mater and contribute toward its academic growth and excellence.
