Assam: DDC meeting held in Sonitpur under chairmanship of DC Ankur Bharali

Tezpur: The District Development Committee (DDC) meeting for December was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of District Commissioner Ankur Bharali at the conference hall of the DC office, Sonitpur. The meeting reviewed the status and progress of flagship government schemes under various departments, including Education, Social Welfare, Public Works Department (PWD), Agriculture, Water Resources, Irrigation, Housing and Urban Affairs, Fishery, Food & Civil Supplies, Public Health Engineering (PHE), Transport, Cultural Affairs, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, handloom & Textiles and Excise, among others.

In his opening remarks, the District Commissioner underscored the importance of the monthly review meeting. He enquired about the progress of farmers’ registration and paddy procurement status with the District Agriculture Officer and directed officials from PWD (Building) to ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects such as the Baan Theatre and the District Library Auditorium. Additionally, he took stock of the Borpukhuri project with officials from the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs.

The issue of man-elephant conflict in the district was discussed with Forest Department officials.  Bharali instructed the department to ensure that affected villagers are informed through Gaon Pradhans before any elephant drives are conducted.

Preparations for the upcoming LAC-level Khel Maharan 2.0 events were also reviewed during the meeting. Furthermore, the District Commissioner reiterated the need for strict enforcement of the drive against helmet non-compliance.

Bharali informed the attendees that a review meeting concerning the functioning and challenges of Municipal Boards in the district would be conducted soon with the respective municipal officials.

The meeting was attended by District Development Commissioner Lakhinandan Saharia, Heads of Departments from various district administration offices, and other concerned officials.
