DIBRUGARH: Devotees across Dibrugarh gathered at the 200-year-old Prachin Shiv Mandir from morning hours to observe Maha Shivratri today. The Prachin Shiv Mandir situated at Station Road was established in 1818.
Devotees were seen waiting in a queue from early morning in front of the Shiv Mandir. “Every year, we come here to observe Shivratri. We have performed our puja and thanked the organizers for holding the Shivratri in a well-organized way,” said Bulbul Sharma, a resident of Dibrugarh.
The devotees offered prayers and worship at Shiv temples across Dibrugarh and many people held fasts during the auspicious day. Thousands of devotees visited the historical Raidongia Dol situated at the Lezai-Khalkhowa area in Dibrugarh today. The Dol was built in 1750 by the Ahom King Swargadeo Parmatta Singha.
“Every year during Shivratri, we come to Raidongia Dol to pray for the good health and well-being of my family members and every citizen. I urge the Government of Assam to take steps for the preservation of the historical Dol,” said a resident of Dibrugarh.
