Haflong: Executive Member of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC), Donpainon Thaosen, has categorically dismissed the allegations levelled by Devojit Bathari against DHAC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Debolal Gorlosa and others. The statement was issued on Wednesday.
EM Thaosen stated that the recent accusations made by Devojit Bathari, also an EM of DHAC, alleging threats and intimidation including a claim that he was threatened with a firearm were entirely baseless and misleading.
He clarified that the notice served to Bathari on March 25, 2025, was officially issued by the concerned department, directing him to vacate a government quarter that he no longer has the authority to occupy. Thaosen pointed out that Bathari owns a private residence and had already shifted there last year. It was also noted that Bathari himself has not been residing in the government-allotted quarter.
Moreover, credible sources have revealed that Bathari allowed around 15 to 20 youths to occupy the quarter, using the premises as a club, bar, or gathering spot. Activities such as alcohol consumption and public disturbances were reportedly taking place at the location.
The same government quarter was officially re-allotted on March 28, 2025, to Dhriti Thaosen, Member of Autonomous Council (MAC), Vice-Chairman of the District Planning Board, and President of the BJP Dima Hasao. Dhriti Thaosen does not possess any residential accommodation in the district headquarters and is thus entitled to housing as per existing rules.
As per departmental records, Bathari is no longer the in-charge of the Agriculture Department and is currently holding charge of the Adult Education department. Therefore, using a writing pad identifying himself as the EM of the Agriculture Department is incorrect and unauthorized.
In light of these facts, EM Thaosen stated that Bathari’s complaint appears to be an attempt to divert attention from his non-compliance with departmental orders. The administration remains committed to upholding transparency, discipline, and fairness in all administrative matters.
