Assam: DHSK Commerce College forms Study & Research Cell in memory of Sadagar Bholanath Barooah

‘Sadagar Bholanath Barooah Adhyayan aru Gabeshna Kosh’, a Study and Research Cell was formed in memory of Sadagar Bholanath Barooah, at a public meeting held under the aegis of DHSKCC .

DIBRUGARH: ‘Sadagar Bholanath Barooah Adhyayan aru Gabeshna Kosh’ (Sadagar Bholanath Barooah Study & Research Cell - SBBSRC), a Study and Research Cell was formed yesterday in memory of Sadagar Bholanath Barooah, famous entrepreneur from Assam at a public  meeting held under the aegis of DHSK Commerce College here, the first full-fledged  commerce college in the north-eastern region.

The meeting held with Gopal Ch Sarmah, retired professor and educationist, in the chair formed the core committee of the body with Sarmah as the Director and the Principal as well as the Vice-Principal as the Secretary and Deputy Secretary respectively. Paban Kumar Garodia, prominent businessman and President of the DHSKCC Alumni Association (DHSKCCAA) and all the faculty members of the institution were included as the executive members of the committee.

The meeting also decided to accept Prof Kiran Hazarika, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Prof Ajanta Borgohain Rajkonwar, Vice-Chancellor, Assam Women University (AWU), Prof Kumud Ch Goswami, Dean, School of Commerce & Management Science, Dibrugarh University, Devi Prasad Bagrodia, prominent tea planter and writer and Dr Suryyakanta Hazarika, former president of ‘Axam Xahitya Xabha’ as advisors to the organization.

The meeting also formed two sub-committees namely ‘Sadagar Bholanath Barooah Study Cell’(SBBSC) and ‘Sadagar Bholanath Barooah Research Cell’(SBBRC) for smooth functioning of the cell.

Dr Nabajyoti Dutta, HoD, Department of Assamese, also a convener of the meeting, and Sangeeta Sensua Gogoi, Librarian of the college, were nominated as Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator to the sub-committee constituted for the study cell.

Representatives of the faculty members of the Departments of English, Accountancy, Business Management, Commerce and Economics, along with the General Secretary, Magazine Secretary and Cultural Secretary of the Students’ Union of the college were included as the executive members in the sub-committee concerned.

On the other hand, Dr Joydev Gogoi, HoD, Department of Business Management of the institution and a Research Supervisor under Dibrugarh University, was entrusted the responsibility as the Coordinator to the sub-committee constituted for the Research Cell. The other research supervisors of the college have been included as the executive members in the sub-committee concerned.

Paban Kumar Garodia, President, DHSKCCAA, Dr Citra Roy, faculty member, Department of Economics, Dr Tulika Mattack, Coordinator, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Dr Joydev Gogoi, HoD, Department of Business Management and Bani Kachari, faculty member, Department of Commerce, aired their opinions in the meeting on different issues related to the formation and future plans of the cell.

On behalf of the conveners, Sailen Gogoi Principal In-Charge, stated the purpose of formation of the new cell in the college and declared about the allotment of one room for functioning of the cell and urged all concerned to co-operate in the process so that the ideals of the Sadagar Bholanath Barooah, business icon of the north-eastern region of the country, could be carried out to the new generations.

Gopal Ch Sarmah from his presidential chair, in his speech, shared about his dream of doing something worthy in memory of Sadagar Bholanath Barooah, the great business doyen of Assam, after going through the editorial of the diamond jubilee souvenir of the college. He also expressed his satisfaction on the formation of the new body in the meeting. It would be pertinent to note that Sarmah had donated a few chairs and a table along with an almirah for the smooth functioning of the new body.

At the outset, Dr Nabajyoti Dutta, Joint Convener, stated the aim and objective of the meeting, elaborating on the necessity of a body for preservation of books, photographs and other documents related to business icons of the state like Bholanath Barooah and the history of economics and commerce of the region and to encourage the new researchers on the topics concerned.
