TINSUKIA: The aggrieved contractual workers of Digboi Refinery, who have been regularly deprived of their monthly wages, have threatened to shut down the refinery in future if their demands were not met immediately.

The workers, under the banner of Bharatiya Thika Mazdoor Union (IOCL-AOD) and Mineral Oil Workers’ Union, resorted to demonstration in front of Digboi Refinery on Thursday after the management and the contractor failed to fulfil the service conditions laid down in the agreement. The leaders alleged that their salaries remained unpaid for months together or delayed by months even as the wages are to be released before the 10th of every month. The PF contribution has not been paid since July 2024 and even the safety gadgets were not provided to workers, they alleged, stating further that both management and the contractor are in a tacit internal understanding deceiving the workers.
