NAZIRA: The Deodhai Pukhuri, a historic pond in the heart of Nazira, is on the brink of extinction due to neglect and lack of conservation. Dating back to the Ahom era, this pond is believed to have been built for the Deodhai priests, who played a significant role in the Ahom kingdom.
Despite its historical significance, the pond has been left to decay, with no efforts made by the Archaeological department or the government to preserve it. The pond’s surroundings have become dirty and foul-smelling, with overgrown vegetation covering its banks.
The Deodhai Pukhuri is not only a symbol of pride for the Deodhai priests but also a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the Ahom kingdom. If immediate action is not taken to conserve and restore the pond, it may soon be lost forever, taking with it a chapter of history and cultural significance.
The people of Nazira have been eagerly waiting for the authorities to take action and save this piece of history. It is imperative that the government and the Archaeological department take steps to preserve this historic pond and restore its former glory.
The locals are urging the authorities to take immediate action to clean and restore the pond, develop the surroundings, and protect the pond’s historical significance.
