The assault resulted in severe injuries to a Sub-Inspector and minor injuries to five constables. The mob also attempted to seize the police team’s firearms and ammunition and damaged their official vehicle.

The critically injured sub-inspector, Rupankar Das, in-charge of Silbori Outpost, was immediately transferred to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment. The other injured personnel Lance Naik Jewel Hazarika, Lance Naik Ananda Das, Lance Naik Drone Dutta, Lance Naik Marcos Soren, and Havildar Pradip Boro were admitted to Mangaldai Civil Hospital for medical care.

Upon receiving the report, Darrang Superintendent of Police Prakash Sonowal, accompanied by Additional Superintendent of Police Rosy Talukdar and Ima Das, promptly arrived at the scene and arrested thirty suspects in connection with the incident.

Dalgaon Police registered a case under Case No. 84/25, citing Sections 109, 117(2), 118(2), 121(2), 127(2), 132, 189(2), 3(5), 324(5), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. All arrested individuals were presented before the judicial court on Saturday evening.

On April 25, at around 8:00pm, Koushik Choudhury, a contractor engaged in sand and soil mining at the Dhansiri riverbed upon payment of forest royalties, filed an FIR at Dalgaon Police Station. He alleged that on April 21, four local youths visited the mining site and demanded Rs. 500 per loaded dumper, which he refused to pay. On April 23, the same youths returned, this time demanding Rs. 3 lakh. Upon his refusal, they verbally abused him, threatened him with dire consequences, and forcibly removed sand and soil from the site.

Consequently, Dalgaon Police registered a case under Case No. 83/25, citing Sections 296, 3(5), 308(2), 351(2), and 61(2) of the BNS, and arrested the accused individuals, identified as Mostak Ahmed, Jahidul Islam, Habibar Rahman, and Ekmadullah Hoque.

On Friday night, when Sub-Inspector Rupankar Das and his team arrived at the mining site to investigate, the unruly mob suddenly attacked them. It is alleged that the mob deliberately cut off the area’s power supply to facilitate the assault on the police team.
