BISWANATH CHARIALI: The Department of Agriculture and CSS-ATMA, Biswanath, successfully organized a Kisan Mela on March 6 and 7 in association with the District Administration, Biswanath.
The event, held at the District Agriculture Office campus, witnessed an overwhelming participation of around 500 farmers from across the district. The Kisan Mela was inaugurated by District Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey on the first day who urged the farmers present to adopt multiple cropping and organic farming systems and seed distribution on cluster basis during his speech in the open session of the event.
The exhibition stalls were opened by Associate Dean, Biswanath College of Agriculture Ranendra Nath Barman. He emphasised on the importance of multiple cropping, irrigation systems, and classification of farmers during his speech.
The mela was organized with the objective of showcasing the agriculture and allied departmental products under CSS-ATMA demonstrations and other commodities from different entrepreneurs. The District Agriculture Officer-cum-Project Director, CSS ATMA Baneswer Bey welcomed the farmers who participated and dignitaries from other departments including Veterinary, Fishery, Handloom, and Textile, PHE, Sericulture, North Eastern Region Farm Machinery Training and Testing Institute (NER), etc. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in promoting agricultural growth and improving the livelihoods of farmers and highlighted the achievements of various schemes being implemented under the Department of Agriculture, Biswanath during 2024-25.
On the second day of the Kisan Mela, the farmers’ interaction session, focused on the areas of organic and natural farming and bio-agricultural products, besides the usage of modern agricultural machinery, was organized wherein about 200 farmers participated from different corners of the district.
