DHUBRI: Tapan Roy, a KLO activist of Jhapusabari village under Agomoni Police Station of Dhubri district, was arrested by a special crime team which arrived here, with the help of local police on Sunday.
A police source said that Roy was maintaining links with ULFA (I) and this was revealed by an ULFA (I) man arrested during interrogation. For further intensive grilling under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), he was shifted immediately to the Guwahati Crime branch.
32-year-old Roy was arrested in a case registered at the Guwahati Crime Police Station (Case No. 02/25), where he faces charges under Sections 6(2), 147, and 308(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), alongside Sections 10 and 13 of the UAPA.
Tapan Roy, alias Haradhon Koch alias Master Koch, is the son of Anil Chandra Roy of Jhapusabari Part-I under Agomoni Police Station of Dhubri.
While police high officials remained tight-lipped on the specific details that led to Roy’s arrest, a senior lawyer of Dhubri Court said that imposition of UAPA charges points to serious allegations with potential threat related to national security. Roy’s shifting to Guwahati indicates that a high-level investigative team will interrogate him.
