DIBRUGARH: A colourful procession was taken out in Dibrugarh on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti today. The devotees took out a grand procession from Graham Bazar Jain Mandir which passed through the main street of Dibrugarh. The Jain community participated in the procession holding religious flags. The New Market Jain Mandir also took out a procession in Dibrugarh.
“Today, we are celebrating the 2623rd birth anniversary of Mahavir. Prayers started from morning hours and it is the most sacred day for our community. We have offered prayers and prasad to Lord Mahavir,” said Sandeep Jain, a devotee.
Mahavir Jayanti, the birth anniversary of 24th and last Jain Tirthankar Lord Mahavir, is being observed across the country today. It is one of the most sacred days for the Jain community. The followers of Lord Mahavir celebrated this festival by chanting prayers, offering prasad and participating in chariot processions.
