GUWAHATI: In a significant incident, Shahjahan Khandakar, a resident of Mathgharia, Guwahati, allegedly attacked his wife, Rishima Begum, and their five-year-old son, Shahzad Khandakar, in a fit of rage with a machete.

Shahjahan, who worked in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, had been living there with his wife and two sons for years. The family relied on the earnings of Rishima and their 13-year-old elder son, as Shahjahan had no steady income.

Tensions escalated on Friday when the elder son skipped work, sparking a heated argument between Shahjahan and Rishima. However, the situation turned deadly that night when Rishima gave food to the elder son, enraging Shahjahan. After the elder son was sent out of the house, Shahjahan hacked his wife and younger son to death with a machete.

In another similar incident, an Assam man allegedly murdered his wife and their three-year-old son on April 12. According to reports, the two victims are Neshiya Begum and her three-year-old son, Sahadkar Khandkar. The woman was said to have been stabbed using a sharp object, while the child was strangled.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ayodhya, Rajkaran Nayyar, the tragic events unfolded after a domestic argument between the husband and wife. After the fight, the husband reportedly attacked Neshiya, killing her, before fleeing the scene.
