CHIRANG: In a significant incident, a man has been arrested for the second time, this time for the brutal murder of a minor girl, for whom he had earlier been arrested for raping.
The accused, Mukha Basumatary, was initially arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
However, after securing bail, he allegedly returned to the victim's home in the Runikhat area along the Indo-Bhutan border in Chirang, Assam, and beat her to death. Police have re-arrested Basumatary in connection with the murder.
An investigation is currently underway, with authorities working to uncover further details surrounding the case.
This tragic incident has sparked outrage and deep concern across the community, raising serious questions about the effectiveness and enforcement of bail conditions in cases involving crimes against minors.
In another similar incident, police arrested a 55-year-old identified as Tapan Bhaduri for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl from his neighborhood. According to police, the accused took advantage of the young girl when she was alone at her residence.
Upon learning about the incident, the victim’s family immediately lodged a complaint with the police. Responding swiftly, officials from the Odalbakra outpost apprehended the accused.
