MANGALDAI: Nagendra Nath Sharma (82 years), an eminent retired teacher and philanthropist, and a resident of No. 2 Bamunpara in Mangaldai, passed away on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment. He was admitted to a private hospital in Mangaldai on Tuesday after suddenly falling ill. Sharma served as a teacher at Mogalbecha Primary School and Duni Middle English School, and retired as the Headmaster of Dhula Hirapara Middle English School. For his exceptional contributions to education, he was honoured with the State Eminent Teacher Award by the Assam Government. Beyond teaching, he dedicated himself to numerous social welfare activities and was actively involved with the Mangaldai Sanatana Dharma Sabha and various other organizations.
His demise has been mourned by several notable figures and organizations, including Mangaldai Parliamentarian Dilip Kumar Saikia, Legislator Basanta Das, Civic Body Chairperson Nirmali Devi Sharma, Chairman of Mangaldai Development Authority Pratap Bordoloi, Mangaldai Media Circle, Mangaldai Youth Club, Chambers of Commerce, Chapai Yuva Kalyan Sangha, Karunadhara Darrang District Assistance Committee, All Darrang District Students' Union, and Darrang District Committee of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, among others.
The Late Sharma is survived by his wife, only son and renowned musician Pranjal Sharma, three daughters, and youngest brother Hareshwar Sharma. His mortal remains were consigned to flames as per the Vedic rituals at the public crematorium at Tengabari.
