DIBRUGARH: In a stunning exhibition of cultural heritage, over 3,471 Jhumoir dancers from upper Assam gathered at the Khanikar playground for an extended rehearsal ahead of the 24 February event "Jhumoir Binondini", to be held in Guwahati. Organized by the state's cultural affairs department, this event aims to take the Jhumoir dance, which is an integral part of the cultural identity of the tea community, into the global arena.

The rehearsal had participants from 8,000 youths across Assam, including 1,632 dancers from Dibrugarh, 1,100 from Tinsukia, 544 from Charaideo, 131 from Lakhimpur, and 64 from Dhemaji. The youth performers, clad in their ethnic wear, presented a great view to the audiences with their movements in unison and spirited performance, truly encapsulating the very spirit of Jhumoir.

Among those present were state ministers Jogen Mohan, Prasanta Phukan, and Rupesh Gowala, along with a whole host of other dignitaries from among the cultural circles. Jhumoir dance is the harvest dance of the Adivasi tea tribes, where the dancers sway in unison, accompanied by Madal, Dhol, Taal, and Flute.

Anjali Munda, a 20-year-old dancer from Charaideo, is all excited about participating in the event. Assam's Tea Community Culture, according to Minister Jogen Mohan, was necessary to be highlighted, given the dedication of the young performers as they prepare for their moment in the spotlight before PM Modi and a global audience.
