Assam: May Day observed by Khoraghat Forest Workers’ Union

Under the aegis of the Khoraghat Forest Workers’ Union, May Day was observed at Khoraghat with a colourful programme.

BILASIPARA: Under the aegis of the Khoraghat Forest Workers’ Union, May Day was observed at Khoraghat with a colourful programme. In the morning, the red flag was hoisted by Munin Mahanta, president of AITUC, Assam State Committee, while Kismat Ali, president of the union, offered floral tributes at the martyrs’ column.

After the flag hoisting, Munin Mahanta addressed the workers. Thereafter, a colourful procession was taken out, which traversed the main thoroughfares of Khoraghat, Mahamaya, and Bagribari, with participants shouting various slogans.

Following the procession, a public meeting was held in the afternoon with Kismat Ali in the chair. Dayal Paul, former Secretary of the union, explained the aims and objectives of the meeting. Sheikh Hedayetullah, retired Principal of Ratnapith College, Chapar, and a renowned trade unionist, along with Fayjul Hoque, secretary of the union, also addressed the gathering. A cultural programme followed the meeting.

May Day was also observed at Sapatgram, where Ashok Paul hoisted the red flag. The gathering was addressed by Prakash Paul Choudhury and Bappa Barman. In Bilasipara, May Day was observed under the joint aegis of the Bus Workers’ Union and the Truck Workers’ Union.
