DIBRUGARH: Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal on Friday held a meeting with the health officials of four districts of upper Assam at Dibrugarh DC conference hall.

Singhal took stock of the health infrastructure and overall health of the people of the four districts. Health officials from Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Charaideo, and Sivasagar participated in the meeting.

Speaking to media persons, Ashok Singhal said, “A health-review meeting of the four districts of upper Assam was held today in Dibrugarh where we discussed the health issues of the people in these four districts. The Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) is higher in the four upper Assam districts compared to Goalpara and Dhubri. We have discussed the strategies to stop the MMR-IMR.”

“We will launch a special health drive in upper Assam districts to reduce the ratio of MMR-IMR. A special drive will be taken out in Assam for school and college going students where we will conduct a health check-up in 20-22 parameters for early detection of disease. 15 percent hypertension cases were identified in the above 30-years-age group of people and 6-8 percent people were found diabetic in Assam among this age group,” Singhal said.

The Minister further added, “The special drive will help the people to identify the disease and work on it by doing exercise and yoga to reduce its effectiveness. We have discussed several strategies with the health officials and in future we will implement those.”
