NAGAON: A gang of miscreants, led by one Ubaidur Rahman of the Juria area, allegedly has been running criminal activities like smuggling of drugs, cattle, Burmese supari, etc. Besides, the same gang has also allegedly been involved in the collection of money from some other illegal drug-peddlers to provide protection from police in exchange for their money. This sensational allegation was levelled by Krishak Sramik Unnayan Sangram Samittee Assam while addressing a press conference at Nagaon Press Club conference hall on Tuesday.
Pradeep Kalita, the president of the organization, asserted in the press conference that the organization had already submitted a memorandum each to the state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Assam DGP GP Singh in this regard to conduct a fresh and impartial enquiry into the entire episode.
Besides, the organization also alleged that the gang of the miscreants, led by Ubaidur Rahman and his company, consisting of some other members like Parvesh Alom, Shahidul Islam, Nijam Uddin, alias Rehan, Merajul Islam, Rahul Islam, etc., also allegedly collected money from some miscreants involved in criminal activities.
The president of the organization urged the chief minister and Assam DGP, as well as the superintendent of police, to initiate action to check the issue as early as possible, failing which the organization will intensify massive agitation in the days to come.
