Assam: New cathedral church at Chapaguri in Chirang district blessed and dedicated

A new cathedral church with a beautiful and spectacular design at Chapaguri in Chirang district was blessed and inaugurated for the catholic believers on Sunday.

KOKRAJHAR: A new cathedral church with a beautiful and spectacular design at Chapaguri in Chirang district was blessed and inaugurated for the catholic believers on Sunday. The new church with a circular design having a balcony is the largest Catholic Church in the BTC region and will also be the house of the North Eastern Regional Bishop’s Conference.

The dedication and blessing of the cathedral church at Chapaguri under the Diocese of Bongaigaon was done by Most Rev John Moolachira, Archbishop of Guwahati, in the presence of Archbishop of Shillong Most Rev Victor Lyndo, Archbishop of Imphal Most Rev Linus Neli, Archbishop, Emeritus of Guwahati Most Rev Thomas Menamparapil, Archbishop, Emeritus of Imphal Most Rev Dominic Lumon, Archbishop, Emeritus of Itanagar Rt Rev John Thomas and bishops of other Northeastern states. The inaugural programme of the cathedral church was also attended by MP Joyanta Basumatary.

Hundreds of catholic followers from different parishes attended the blessing and dedication programme. The catholic followers of Chapaguri, Gwjwnpuri, Bongaigaon, and adjacent areas expressed their happiness for getting a unique cathedral which has become a centre of attraction for the visitors as well.
